One of the major projects by BruderHilfe, is the Project Karakata, a human development intervention, which focuses on deploying and implementing practical and sustainable economic empowerment and skill acquisitions programmes, for women in rural and urban poor communities in Nigeria, who have little or no access to sustainable economic livelihoods.
Project Karakata sets out to Deploy interventions that will lead to the drastic reduction of poverty; Ensure gender equality and improvement of women’s economic rights; Decent work and economic growth; and Reduce inequalities.
The project commenced in 2021, and so far 54 Women in Ogun, Niger, Katsina and Lagos state have been empowered to establish businesses; and we are on the verge of implementing the next phase on the 19th to 22nd of April, 2023; in the Ilaje Local Government area of Ondo State.
We would be empowering vulnerable women in the local government, with revolving loan (without interest), to be used as capital to establish businesses; aimed at equipping the selected women with a means of earning income, training, & grant support; and to boost the economic potentials of their communities.
The revolving loan scheme set up in the community, would continually circulate around the community women, and a village Savings and Loan Association (VSLA) would be set up.
This edition of the Project Karakata initiative is implemented by Bruderhilfe e (fowl) Germany; in partnership with Bruderhilfe Social Development Initiative, and sponsored by Clean Angel GmbH Berlin.
